Scoil Mhuire has a strong commitment to a team approach
to education. The total community is involved in the process. The
community is involved in the process. The school, the parents and
the Parish work together to create a healthy, happy progressive learning
environment. It is our philosophy that if children are happy, they
are open to learning.
The partnership between the various interests to combine
to foster such an environment.
Our parents Association is encouraged to get involved
in our school. This hardworking body meets monthly to discuss relevant
matters. It is active in fundraising with events taking place throughout
the year. It is also involved in the development of the school and
its facilities.
We in Scoil Mhuire take great pride in our school
building and grounds. Our large assembly hall which has recently been
refurbished, provides an excellent environment within which the children
do PE It is also used for school concerts as well as being available
for local groups for Dancing, Gymnastics and Youth Club Activities.
The hall is also used for Sunday Mass.
Scoil Mhuire has established a strong tradition on
the sporting field particularly in the area of Gaelic Games. The school
enters teams in Cumann na mBunscol competitions in Gaelic Football
and Hurling. Our football teams have qualified for Primary Schools
finals in Croke Park 6 times in the last 5 years. We also hold internal
leagues every Spring that cater for boys and girls from 3rd to 6th
classes. 90% of the children from these classes take part in these
leagues. We also hold basketball leagues for girls in 5th and 6th
class. Our children participate annually in the Primary School Sports.
All of these activities are team based and we feel that this has to
benefit the children in many ways.
Many of our pupils also participate in Speech &
Drama, Tap Dancing, Irish Dancing and Ballet classes after school
so the choice of activity for boys and girls are very varied.
Scoil Mhuire is very fortunate to be equipped with
a state of the art computer room with 15 computers networked and on-line.
We have a video conferencing facility and each classroom has an ISDN
connection.
We are well served by Secondary Schools in the Lucan
area. The majority of our pupils go to Lucan Community College, Colaiste
Phadraig or St Joseph's College.
A basic tenet of the philosophy of music education
in Scoil Mhuire is that MUSIC IS FOR ALL. Each child,
we believe, has music potential and our aim is to help each one achieve
this.
To celebrate the school's 10th anniversary, a particular
initiative in music education was launched. The staff gave of it's
own time to partake in a course which allowed each one of them to
offer tuition in recorder playing to his/her own class. As a result,
all pupils, in classes from 1st - 6th learn recorder as part of the
daily work in the classroom.
This is a project that is going from strength to strength
and this year we are establishing a broad-based curriculum in music
for the infant classes, where the children are experiencing the elements
of music, response to music and musical creativity, incorporating
listening, composing and performing activities.
In Scoil Mhuire we foster a regard for discipline
and respect for others, but primarily our philosophy is perhaps best
summarized in the Irish phrase "Mol an Oige agus tiocfaidh siad",
"Praise the Youth and they'll develop".
