Presentation Secondary School, Sexton Street, Limerick

Presentation Secondary School is a large city center school which was established in 1837 at Sexton Street in Limerick, to serve the second level educational needs of the growing population on the south side of the city.

Currently the school caters for over 640 students from first year to Post Leaving Certificate level.

The aim of the school is to " to provide an educational environment suited to the needs of each individual within the demands of the changing world". The school has experienced many successes in the areas of sports, debating, music, Young Scientists', art, business to name but a few. In the late Spring of 1996 a project was commenced by staff at the school to examine the mission of the school in the light of contemporary socio-educational trends and the educational needs of the local community- The debate which followed led to the establishment of a research group and public relations initiative destined to raise the profile of the school and to redefine its role in a broader and more dynamic context.

The school has always been to the forefront of curriculum development and has introduced many innovative programmes in the school including:

Senior Certificate: The school piloted Senior Cert. in 1984. This programme was a forerunner to the Leaving Certificate Applied. The Senior Certificate was one of the first qualifications to include Computer Applications.

Transition Year: Transition Year was introduced in 1994. Information Technology is used as a means of integrating all subjects throughout this programme

Leaving Cert Applied- PSS was one of fifty schools nationwide to pilot this senior cycle alternative.

Post Leaving Cert: Central College Limerick was established in 1997 in order- to facilitate the delivery of PLC courses at PSS. Courses currently on offer include- Information Processing, Business Studies, Childcare and Hotel & Catering,- The common thread running- through all these courses is Information Technology.
