To provide teachers and pupils in participating schools with opportunities to implement the ICTs curriculum related activities. It would be preferable if teachers not normally involved with ICTs would actively participate in these projects.
Operational Details
Target Group: First and/or Second Class.
Prepare oral reports on the children's Christmas holidays to be delivered using VC between paired schools. The project should be completed by the end of January 1998.
Target Group: Third and/or Fourth class.
Prepare a debate on a topic that is agreed between paired schools.
The Project Board will make resource materials available to the schools. The debate to be conducted via VC. The project to be completed by the end of February 1999.
Target Group: Fifth and/or Sixth class.
Paired schools will agree to provide a person to be interviewed by the other. A summary of the interview to be prepared and shared with all the CTOF schools by email. The Project Board will make resource materials available to the schools.
The project to be completed by the end of March 1999.
A selected teacher within each school will choose a study topic that lies broadly within the curriculum. The Internet to be used by the teacher to locate relevant material to support presentation and study of the topic. The schools might agree to work in pairs on the same topic. The results to be shared between the CTOF schools. The Project Board will make resource materials available to the schools.
The project to be completed by the end of April 1999.
Note
It is envisaged that school will engage in up to three collaborative projects at each of two levels: first year and transition year. The projects can be selected from the list given or can be agreed between the partner schools. The projects are to be completed before the end of May 1999.
Projects for first year students
An email project where the students in a selected class group communicate with a corresponding group in its paired school in a language other than English (for example Gaeilge, French). The participating paired schools can agree the theme adopted (for example schools sport, music, the arts, and school events).
Prepare a debate on a topic that is agreed between paired schools. A different class grouping is selected from within paired schools to engage in a debate on an agreed topic.

One of the schools will organise a reading by a local author, poet etc. via VC with an opportunity to ask questions of the presenter. The target audience in all four schools will prepare an agreed review of the reading and publish their reviews on the Project Web site. It would be useful if one of the pupils in each school was selected as co-ordinator for this activity.
Classes publish puzzles to be solved by corresponding classes in the paired schools. The Project Board will make resource materials available to the schools.
Prepare a debate in English or Irish on a topic that is agreed between paired schools. A summary of the debate to be prepared by a student in each school and published on the Project website
The Project Board will make resource materials available to the schools. The debate to be conducted via VC.
A company is set up between classes in paired schools to oversee investment on the stock market or the development of a product. Board meetings to be organised using VC. Interim reports to be published on the Project website.
Organise a mathematical Olympics between the paired schools. The first part of this project will be to develop and publish resource materials (sample questions etc.). In the second stage, teams from the schools will compete in the Olympics using VC.
Organise a science table quiz. Resource materials (sample questions etc.) are available form the ISTA and could be published on the Project website prior to the event to allow the participants to practice.
